Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire resides in a uninhabited area of Montreal Island known as West Island. People who don't understand they mistakenly believe they are on the West Island extends westward from Montreal. Actually it is the West Island includes everything westward from that city Lachine. Amanda Brugel's hometown is often cited, however her short visit to the West Island wasn't. Brugel grew up in Courtice outside Oshawa Ontario. She had a dream to be a dancer however a rapid growth rate meant that she literally outgrew her dance partner. In an article in the Toronto Star she admitted In heels I'm 6 feet 1 inch. Once I was bigger than the size of my male companion, I stopped. Many former dancers turn to acting and in the case of Brugel it was the result of a recommendation from her drama teacher. It was her teacher who advised her to audition for the role of Anne in their annual school production. She was chosen to play the lead part of Anne of Green Gables after she tried out. This led to her being awarded a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000 she earned her BA in Fine Arts at York University. Over the past 20 years that followed, Brugel has been offered roles in more than 60 productions across small and big screens, attracting the greatest attention when she landed the role of Rita on the award-winning series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel, the only Canadian in the season 1 cast of the show and seen only occasionally, was the sole Canadian.
